Odissi music is very charming and colourful and holds a history of more than two thousand five hundred years old. Many saint-poets wrote the lyrics of songs and poems which were sung to arouse a religious feeling among the people.
You might be unaware of the fact that Odissi music is a kind of Odramagadhi music and hence, is not a part of Hindustani music. During the 11th century, the Odissi music was arranged into a classical style, which related to other styles of Indian classical music. Odia songs boast about the travelling bards which is a major part of their heritage. Odisha, one of the states of India, is known as one of the musical centers of South India.
